Las Vegas ATV Tour FAQ: Age Requirements, Driver’s License, Safety, What to Wear, and Weather Tips
If you’re thinking about booking a guided ATV tour near Las Vegas, you probably have the same questions we hear every day. Do I need a driver’s license? What do I wear? Is it safe? What happens if it’s windy? Will I be covered in dust?
At Awesome Adventures, we keep it simple. We’re a guided tour, not rentals. We handle the route, the gear, the instruction, and the group pace. You show up ready to ride and ready to have a real Nevada experience off the Strip.
Below is a straight-up FAQ (with real details) so you can book confidently, whether you’re a first-timer or you’ve ridden before.
Quick Answers Before We Dive In
We’re a guided tour, not rentals. You ride with our team leading the way.
Beginner-friendly and still fun for experienced riders. We can keep it scenic or turn up the adrenaline depending on your tour and add-ons.
Closed-toe shoes are mandatory. No exceptions.
Expect dust. We’re in the desert, and that’s part of the fun.
Free photos and videos are a big part of the experience. We capture your adventure so you can stay present and just enjoy it.
Weather changes fast in the desert. Layers matter in cooler months, hydration matters in warm months.

What to Expect on Tour Day
We’re big on making the day feel smooth and organized, not chaotic. Here’s how it typically flows, and why it feels like a real experience instead of a rushed activity.
Step 1: Check-in and waivers
We get everyone checked in, confirm your booking details, and make sure waivers and IDs match what’s required.
Step 2: Ghost town sightseeing on tours that include it
Before you even touch the throttle, we guide you through an 1861 ghost town-style setting. This is where the Old West energy hits and the iconic photos start early.
Step 3: Gear up and safety briefing
Helmet sock, helmet, goggles, gloves, plus hands-on instructions. We cover spacing, braking, corners, group pacing, and what to do if you need help. This is where nervous first-timers relax, and where experienced riders get aligned on the ride flow.
Step 4: Ride time on epic trails
We lead the route. You ride at a pace that’s fun but controlled, with scenic moments and photo stops depending on the tour.
Step 5: Wrap-up, dust-off, and media moments
You’ll come back smiling (and dusty). We dust you off before you head out, and your media gets delivered digitally so you leave with content you actually want to post.
Step 6: Bonus time depending on the tour
Some tours include time in the Adventure Zone, lunch, extra add-ons, or the gold mine finale.
Driver’s License and ID Rules
This is the most important “don’t mess this up” section, because it can impact check-in.
Do I need a driver’s license to drive?
Bring your driver’s license. Even if you’re not sure you’ll be driving, it’s always better to have it and not need it than the other way around.
Does the card and ID name have to match the booking?
Yes. The driver’s license must match the credit card on file when booking the tour. The person booking the tour will need to show their credit card and ID to the tour guide to verify it is your card.
If names don’t match, it can create check-in issues, so handle this before tour day.
Can I pay cash?
No. Tours are booked and paid in advance.
What if I forgot my ID or license?
Don’t risk it. If driving requires it and you don’t have it, you may not be able to drive. Always bring it.
Age Requirements
Age requirements can depend on the specific tour and vehicle type, but here are the key rules to know.
RZR driver age requirement
RZR drivers must be 21 years old to drive.
ATV age requirements
ATV driving eligibility can vary depending on the tour and safety requirements. If you’re booking for teens or a mixed-age group, we’ll help confirm the best tour and setup during booking so there are no surprises at check-in.
Families with kids and teens
We do get families, and we’ll help you choose the right tour and vehicle setup so everyone stays safe and has fun. If your group includes teens, book early and let us guide you to the best tour and vehicle combo.
ATV vs RZR
If you’re stuck choosing, this is the easiest way to decide.
Choose an ATV tour if you want
A hands-on, single-rider experience
The classic “I rode an ATV in the Nevada desert” vibe
A ride that feels active and sporty
Choose an RZR tour if you want
A side-by-side ride that feels stable and comfortable
To ride next to someone (great for couples and friends)
A vehicle that feels more car-like while still being wild and fun
If you’re torn, ask yourself one question. Do you want to ride solo and sporty (ATV), or together and shared (RZR)?
Safety
We keep it fun without being reckless. That’s the whole point of guided tours.
Is a guided ATV tour safe?
Guided tours are designed for safety with structured pacing, a safety briefing, required gear, and a guide leading the route. The ride stays smooth when everyone follows the basics, and we’re big on keeping the group flow organized.
Do we train you first?
Yes. We don’t toss you keys and point at the desert. You’ll get real instructions, and we’ll answer questions before you ride.
What if I’m nervous?
Totally normal. Most people start a little tense, then relax once they realize it’s guided, controlled, and paced for the group.
What if I’m experienced and want more adrenaline?
We’ve got options for that too. That’s where add-ons like Extended Ride and Desert Dash for advanced riders can take the experience up a level.
Pregnancy policy
For safety reasons, pregnant guests are not permitted to ride.
Incidentals and damage policy
This is the part nobody likes reading, but everyone appreciates having it clearly up front.
If an ATV is tipped or rolled, a minimum of $300 plus any additional damages will be charged to the card on file.
If a 2-seater RZR or 6-seater Ranger is tipped or rolled, a minimum of $3500 plus any additional damages will be charged to the card on file.
If a 4-seater RZR is tipped or rolled, a minimum of $4500 plus any additional damages will be charged to the card on file.
Follow the rules and everyone will be safe and it won’t hit your pocketbook.
What to Wear
Let’s make this easy. Dress for comfort, sun, wind, and dust.
Mandatory
Closed-toe shoes. Required. No exceptions.
We recommend
Comfortable pants you can move in
A long-sleeve shirt (helps with sun, wind, and desert elements)
Sunglasses (sun and wind)
Sunscreen (even when it’s cool out)
A light layer for cooler months or windy days
Helmet note
Everyone must wear a helmet while riding. We provide helmet socks, and it helps if your hair is worn in a way that allows the helmet to fit correctly. A low ponytail or braid works great.
What not to wear
Sandals, slides, flip flops
Anything you’d be upset about getting dusty
Dangly earrings that get annoying under a helmet
Pro tip for photos
Bright colors pop beautifully against desert tones, and neutrals look clean and classic. Wear whatever makes you feel confident, because you’re going to have a lot of camera-worthy moments.
What to Bring
Keep it minimal, but smart.
Your driver’s license and ID
Sunscreen and lip balm
Hair tie if you have long hair
Light layer for cool months or wind
An extra shirt if you’re going out after and want to feel fresh
Phones are allowed, but keep them secure. Dust is real and drops happen.
Weather Tips
Desert weather has mood swings. Plan for it and you’ll be fine.
Do tours run year-round?
Yes. Each season has its own vibe. The key is dressing correctly and planning for desert temperature swings.
Spring
Comfortable temps and clear skies
Can still feel chilly while riding, especially earlier in the day
You might catch desert blooms depending on timing
Summer
Hot and bright
Hydration isn’t optional, it’s everything
Earlier times are a popular choice for avoiding peak heat
Fall
One of the best seasons for riding
Cooler mornings and perfect afternoons
Great light for photos
Winter
Crisp air and sometimes windy
Still an amazing time to ride because winter here is very manageable compared to most places
A hoodie or light jacket goes a long way
What if it’s windy?
Wind happens. Sunglasses help a lot, layers help, and our team will always make the safety call if conditions aren’t right.
What if it rains?
Rain is less common, but safety comes first. If trails aren’t safe, we’ll guide you on next steps.
Group Bookings and Celebrations
This is where we really shine. If you’re booking for a birthday crew, bachelor or bachelorette, corporate team, or a big family trip, we can make it feel like a full experience, not just a ride.
Ask us about group favorite add-ons like:
Sweet Cheers and Celebration
Poker Run
Scavenger Hunt
Extended Ride
Desert Dash for advanced riders
The easiest move is to book your tour first, then we’ll layer in the add-ons based on your group vibe.
Dust, Photos, and “What Will I Look Like After?”
Will I get dusty?
Yes. You’re in the desert. It’s part of the story.
Do you offer photos and videos?
Yes, and it’s a big reason people love Awesome Adventures. We capture action shots, scenic moments, and group photos so you can stay in the moment and still leave with epic content.
Can I bring my phone?
You can, but keep it secure. If you want content without worrying about your phone, that’s exactly why we capture media for you.
Final Checklist Before You Go
Driver’s license and ID
Closed-toe shoes
Comfortable pants and long sleeve top
Sunglasses and sunscreen
Hair tie if needed
Light layer if needed
A “let’s do this” attitude and zero fear of dust
