3. The Colorado River Swim Spot

A turquoise stretch of the Colorado River reachable on the Eldorado Canyon tour, with a short hike down to the water and a jump spot for the brave. Swimming is best in the warmer months. Most visitors never know it is there.

Blocks of large scale murals, galleries, and vintage shops in the 18b Arts District. First Friday each month is the best time to visit, when the neighborhood comes alive.

8. Mount Charleston

An alpine escape from the desert heat, 45 minutes from the Strip and often 20 to 30 degrees cooler. Hiking in summer, snow in winter. A completely different Nevada.

9. Cactus Joe’s Blue Diamond Nursery

A quirky desert garden and cactus nursery on the way to Red Rock Canyon, full of sculptures, succulents, and desert oddities. Free to wander and easy to combine with a Red Rock drive.

10. Historic Fremont Street and the Arts of Old Vegas

The birthplace of Las Vegas, with vintage neon, the light canopy overhead, and classic casinos far older than the Strip. Free to walk, and packed with photo ops.

11. Las Vegas Chinatown on Spring Mountain Road

A long stretch of some of the best food in the city, from ramen and dim sum to Korean barbecue, usually at a fraction of resort prices. Where locals actually eat.

Best Time to Visit Las Vegas Hidden Gems

For the outdoor gems, fall through spring, roughly October to April, brings mild days that are ideal for hiking, off road tours, and the Colorado River. Summer is best tackled early in the day with plenty of water or take advantage of our beautiful sunset tour, where the towering canyons offer shade for a cooler ride.   • Hair MUST be flat enough to fit under a helmet.
